Owned by local businessman David Laurent and managing partners RMD Group, a merger of entrepreneurs Mike Georgopoulous and Rodrigo Iglesias and located in downtown San Diego’s famous Gaslamp quarter, Sidebar evokes a glamorous art deco and modern feel. The dark, moody, and sexy ambiance is created through unexpected elements and surprising details. The space makes way for a unique aura as the gypsy-like approach to the furniture, with a collection of mismatched items appointed in soft velvets, worn leather, and silky blacks is accompanied by thirty deep red birdcages, dangling from the ceilings providing a stark but sleek contrast against the black brick walls and paintings of artistic nudes.
Mysteriously located behind a large silver curtain, Sidebar boasts a gorgeous club side where local DJs play the best, current mixes. Mixologist Ali Pouladin adds to Sidebar’s one of a kind vibe with signature highlights such as the Watermelon Cucumber Mojito, Muddled Honeydew Melon Cocktail, and Shirley’s Dirty Orange. There is surely something to tease all taste buds. Chef Derek Dinublia, known for his New York-style pizza at the adjacent Ciro’s pizzeria, presents a savory bar menu, including smoked bacon and cheddar stuffed hamburgers smothered in barbeque sauce, and a melt-in-your-mouth thinly sliced top sirloin panini.
