This organization is about far more than children's theater. It's about empowerment, mentoring and being involved in something far bigger than yourself. Best of all, all of this is done by the kids.
From start to finish the program is designed to be operated entirely by the kids for the kids. From building sets, working on stage or back stage, from spot lights to being in the bright lights, these kids do it all.
This is a family event. CYT encourages families to participate in supervisory roles. I have made so many friends and I feel truly engaged with my children and the other kids of CYT. I really get to know who my kids are hanging around with. And when kids have to work hard to succeed, they are successful, these CYT kids are.
My children have been in more than 20 shows. They have worked in every aspect of theater imaginable. In addition to being on stage, my 10 year old has done spot lights for two shows and he has worked back stage. My 13 year old has been on stage for 5 years, recently she's moved to the "Tech-booth" where she's learned to program stage lighting design and she has operated the lights for many shows. Soon, she'll be stage managing these high quality shows. My oldest has done more than 20 shows, she's worked on and off stage and she's done sound and worked backstage.
I feel my kids have received a very well rounded theatrical education. Most importantly though, my little wall flowers have blossomed during their time at CYT. They have found their confidence and they are vibrant engaging and very responsible young people who are now very comfortable in almost any setting. Class presentations are a no brainer, they have the poise and confidence that sets the stage for the highest grades.
It is a known fact that kids who are involved in the arts and extracurricular activities do far better than those who don't. I count myself proud to know a few hundred of them. Thank you CYT. You are a blessing to all of us.
