I began shopping with the Running Center back in 2003 at their Redlands location. Each and every one of their staff members is a runner and genuinely cares about not only getting you into the right shoes or gear, but helping you develop as a runner or walker. For being a small locally owned business, they have an unbelievable selection and competitive prices - and if they don't have it, they'll bend over backwards for you. Truly one of the best kept secrets in Southern California.
I used to shop at RRS, until they became the Wal-Mart of running specialty. But unlike Wal-Mart, their regular prices are ABOVE suggested retail.
That is, unless you buy a VIP membership (~$40). Yes, this gives you 10% off of their inflated prices - but you must buy so many pairs of shoes to get your money's worth on the membership that it seems hardly worth the cost to the average runner.
If the average shoe is $100, one would need to buy at least 4 pairs of shoes per year to break even. That means new shoes about every three months. Given the average pair of shoes will last about 400 to 500 miles of pounding, that means one must be running about 40 miles per week to vindicate getting the VIP membership JUST TO BREAK EVEN!
There are many other FANTASTIC running specialty shops who are locally owned and staff by knowledgeable RUNNERS who genuinely care (unlike Road Runner, where they work on commission). Further, some of them will even give you 10% off of regular (NOT inflated prices) AND free shipping WITHOUT A MEMBERSHIP! Refer to the 2007 A-List results for an excellent alternative. :)
Talk about a total blast! I love being able to be involved in the grilling process - and the prices are very fair for being Gaslamp and very hearty portions. Staff has always been very friendly and the atmosphere is a blast. I have and will continue to frequent this great eatery. The only reason why it doesn't get 5 stars is the food isn't jaw droppingly perfect cuisine - but that might be because I'm not the best at grilling! :)
