Fight on Lucha Libre. You've won this Grand Champion of Taco Shops' award for the "Hippest Taco Shop Ever." Your gaudy colors and Luchador motifs send me straight back to the most entertaining form of Mexican television I watched as a child.
The Champion's Booth echoes the sheer epic-ness of your restaurant. You can call 24-hours in advance and register to eat at a golden booth of glory, set with crystal glasses, intricate silverware, elegant plates, and, of course, the fun employees in luchador masks. This feature alone makes it hip-to-the-max (but don't forget the Silver Room on your left where you can take pictures of yourself in the bathroom and post them on MySpace.com, as creepy as it sounds).
The Queso Taco is a tantalizingly strong taco. The cheese tangs your taste buds, while the smooth avocado slices cool you down. But the roller coaster isn't over! The carne asada here is AMONG THE BEST in San Diego. I'll never stop thanking you for bringing me truly tasty chunks of savory beef when so many other taco shops city-wide fail epic-ly in the ring.
Surf and Turf Burrito is so filling and overloaded with flavor that I can't look at that side of the menu any more, now that I'm a vegetarian until the end of the year.
The Champion's Fries are as epic as the booth. Don't order lots of food and then the fries too. I tried that both times and wouldn't dare try to finish all my food. It's just so much.
The TJ Hotdog is classic, and deadly. Bacon-wrapped hotdogs?! THAT is a smackdown in and of itself.
Oh, and it's not over yet.
I'm a really huge fan of the luchador dioramas on the east wall that depict luchadores ripping off opponents' legs. Major props. Dismemberment and Mexican food together? I never thought I'd see the day...
I can't express enough support and admiration for the staff, as well. They make an honest attempt to be friendly and helpful all the time. I've never been dissatisfied.
